Mission: Shoes and Clothes for Kids provides a unique service for income-eligible families in Greater Cleveland by distributing new shoes, clothing, and items for infants and youths.
Core Values: Shoes and Clothes for Kids carries out its mission with compassion, care and respect through a network of partner agencies and offers the community a way to help.
Shoes and Clothes for Kids (SC4K) is the only non-profit organization in Greater Cleveland providing new shoes and clothes at no charge throughout the year to thousands of children in need. For the past 45 years, Shoes and Clothes for Kids (SC4K) has positively impacted the lives of area children by giving them the pride and confidence that comes from having new shoes and clothes. Pride and confidence that are essential to a child's success in school – and in life.
Founded in 1969 by businessman Morrie Sayre as Shoes for Kids, the organization originally collected shoes to distribute directly to the children in need and later raised money to purchase new shoes to serve children directly in the schools. Shoes for Kids officially became Shoes and Clothes for Kids in 1998.
Today, SC4K distributes only brand new items, including quality clothing basic like socks, underwear, t-shirts, pants and coats. In 2008, SC4K began purchasing the majority of its clothing items through a direct purchasing program. Through a network of wholesalers that sell children's clothing at deep discounts, SC4K is able to purchase between $15.00 and $20.00 worth of brand new clothing for every $1.00 spent.
SC4K also purchases and distributes discounted Payless Shoe gift cards instead of shoes, allowing families to purchase new shoes or boots of their own choosing that are stylish and fit properly. These gift cards help us carry out our mission with compassion, care and respect.
SC4K distributes its items through a network of 35 distribution partners located strategically throughout Greater Cleveland. By providing new shoes and clothes through these partner agencies, SC4K connects families to other important programs and services that improve and enrich their lives.
SC4K charges no fees to our recipients or distribution partners, and therefore relies heavily on the support of a wide variety of donors, including individuals, foundations, corporations, organizations, small businesses and a corps of 900 group and individual volunteers who pack clothing in the warehouse, work at the office and help at special events.
2014 marks SC4K’s forty-fifth year of service to families in the Greater Cleveland community and the organization will distribute new clothing and Payless shoe gift cards with a retail value of $2,400,000.
